resorts

Spanish coastal resorts have been favourites with sun-seekers for years and their operators’ experience in the tourism trade means they can provide everything you’ll need during your stay. Here are just a few resorts to consider when thinking about holidays or property purchases.

Costa del Sol

Spain’s ‘Sunshine Coast’ is one of the most visited holiday destinations in the world, with good reason. It boasts over 150 km of coastline and the beaches and climate bring back visitors year after year. Because of its position on the southern coast of Spain, the climate in Costa del Sol never disappoints and you can virtually guarantee sunshine throughout a summer break. If you’re looking for entertainment then head for Marbella. Benalmadena is also a good option for a wide range of activities, from golf to nightclubs, with plenty of provisions for children too. The region sees temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius in July and August and there is seldom any rain.

Costa de la Luz

This is another resort, this time on the southwestern peninsular, which is growing in popularity. It’s less hectic than some of the larger resorts and provides a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere for those with children. There are beauty spots and places of cultural interest to visit for those who like to explore. It offers great snorkelling opportunities too. Costa de la Luz has a milder climate than some of the other coastal regions, with a good breeze from the sea to cool you down if the sun gets too much. It’s a great choice for older people, those with children or couples.

Benidorm

Divided by a curved promontory, the bay at Benidorm offers three miles of beautiful golden sand, with the east beach of Playa de Levante being the liveliest and busiest during the high season. For a little more space, try the second beach to the west. There are no rocks on this beach, making it a better choice for those with young children. Children are catered for handsomely in Benidorm. Aqualandia is a new and exciting water park. Nearby you’ll find a state-of-the-art ‘sea life’ and animal centre called Mundomar and a gigantic history theme park called Terra Mítica.

If you prefer shopping there’s plenty on offer and the lively nightlife is such that you can join in or avoid it equally easily. In July and August, with temperatures reaching upwards of 30 degrees Celsius, it’s the perfect resort for sunbathing. With a slight breeze, the heat never feels stifling.

Tossa De Mar

If you feel like exploring the Costa Brava region then there’s no better location for a first trip than the typically Catalan resort of Tossa De Mar. With two blue-flag beaches, it’s a favourite with families. Retire to one of the many restaurants around the beaches for a long lazy lunch. Activities include snorkelling and water sports in Mar Menunda, where crystal-clear waters offer great visibility. The evening is another treat, with everyone going out to find their favourite seaside restaurant. You can opt for traditional Catalan cuisine or something more familiar
